11° or 17°: Picking the Right Porter Offset Muffler

A Porter Mufflers offset muffler can be a very straightforward replacement for the typical oval-style mufflers you might see, especially when you’re trying to keep the existing exhaust routing intact. Anyone who’s swapped mufflers before knows that even small differences in inlet and outlet position can turn a “simple swap” into cutting, re-bending, or reworking sections of pipe. That’s where the Porter offset design helps—it’s built with either an 11° or 17° offset, so it lines up much closer to what you’re pulling off the car in the first place.

For a shop, that means less time spent modifying pipes just to make things fit, and for someone working in their garage, it can be the difference between a bolt-in job and a snowballing project. Instead of fighting the exhaust to get everything to line up, the muffler does the work for you. The Shorty Offset is especially useful when space is tight and you don’t have room to cheat anything forward or back—it lets you keep everything where it needs to be without reworking the system.
Size-wise, the Porter offset muffler is right in line with what you’d expect from a standard oval muffler, with a 14-inch body and 20-inch overall length to the ends of the inlets. That makes it easy to swap into the same space without having to move hangers or rethink the layout. If you’re replacing that typical turbo-style muffler, chances are this will drop right into place with minimal hassle.

Similar to all other Porter Mufflers, they are all handmade using heavy 16-gauge material, either aluminized steel or polished 304 stainless. Inside, they use a spiral core with stainless wool packing, which gives them that classic and distinct deep Porter rumble. Our offsets will still have our slip-fit on the inlets, and you can clamp them, but welding is the better route if you want a tight seal and something that’s going to hold up long-term. As with our standard mufflers as well, the shorty offsets can be cut within ¼” of the body all the way out on the inlet to get that perfect fit.
